An exceptional antique lidded pill/trinket box made by the George C. Shreve &
Company of San Francisco, California. Shreve was one of the premiere
silversmiths and jewelers in the US during the late 1800's.

This pill box has a hinged lid featuring a raised depiction of two Victorian
era children - a very distinct art style that was seen on several Shreve pieces
from this era. The interior of the case has a brilliant gold-wash.

The rim of the case is marked "Geo. C. Shreve" along with "Sterling" and a
couple other model number hallmarks. This marking dates the piece to the period
of 1883-1894.

The pill box measures 1 7/8" in diameter and 3/4" in height. It is still in
excellent condition for its age, showing minimal signs of wear from use. The
silver has a slightly darkened patina from age that could of course be polished
to a shine if desired. The pill box does have a few very light
impressions/dimples to the silver in a few areas from handling. The interior
gold wash is extremely clean with little wear of any kind. The hinged lid still
opens and closes with ease.

A very scarce original piece of George C. Shreve sterling silver that would
make a nice addition to any collection.
