Antique William IV Silver and Gilded Snuff Box. 1833

A stunning early snuff box, fashioned from sterling silver in 1833 during the
reign of William IV, before Victoria took the throne. Amazing condition for its
age. It features crisp engine turned designs to the lid and base. A floral lip
to the top enables easy opening of the tight fitting lid. Ridged edges around
the box contribute to a real feeling of solidity.
Looking at the wear around the lid edges, it’s clear this box was little used.
The monogram to the lid is the crispest, most linear design I’ve come across.
On the beautifully gilded interior, both the lid and base are hallmarked.

Monarch’s profile - Duty stamp to show taxes had been paid. Used until 1890.
TS - Makers mark for Thomas Shaw of Caroline Street, Birmingham.
